The best ways to save at DoorDash
Delivery fees add up fast. Between DashPass, first-order promo codes, and the right timing, you can cut a DoorDash order by a third or more.
- New customers get the biggest DoorDash promo codes — use one on your first order.
- DashPass removes delivery fees and cuts service fees, paying for itself in ~2–3 orders a month.
- Fees, not menu prices, are where DoorDash orders get expensive — attack those first.
- Pickup skips delivery and service fees entirely, off-peak timing avoids surge fees.
- Check your credit cards — several include DashPass free.
Where to enter a DoorDash promo code
In the DoorDash app or on the website, add items to your cart and open the checkout screen. Tap Promo Code (under the payment section), paste your code, and apply it before you place the order — the discount shows up in the order summary. Codes are usually one per order and often limited to new customers or specific restaurants, so read the fine print on the offer.
Grab a current, verified DoorDash code from our DoorDash coupon page before you check out.
Decide whether DashPass is worth it
DashPass is DoorDash's membership: it drops the delivery fee to $0 on eligible orders over a minimum and reduces service fees. If you order more than about twice a month, it typically pays for itself.
Students get a discounted rate, and several credit cards include DashPass free as a cardholder perk — check yours before paying for it separately, and see our card rewards guide.
Cut the fees, not just the food
The menu markup is only part of the cost — delivery fees, service fees, small-order fees, and tips are where a $15 meal becomes $28. Order above the free-delivery minimum, pick up group orders to split fees, and avoid peak surge windows (Friday and Saturday dinner) when fees climb.
Ordering pickup instead of delivery skips the delivery and service fees entirely — often the single biggest saving on a DoorDash order if you're able to collect it.
Time orders and bundle
DoorDash applies surge-style pricing during the busiest meal times, so ordering slightly before or after the dinner rush can lower both fees and wait times. Off-peak lunch orders are frequently cheaper than peak dinner ones.
Bundling one larger group order instead of several small ones spreads the fixed fees across more food, and clears the free-delivery minimum more easily — the same logic as our group-buying guide.
Stack cash-back and rewards
Layer a cash-back app or a card with a dining or delivery bonus category on top of a promo code and DashPass. Food delivery is a common rotating bonus category, so paying with the right card recovers a few percent on every order.
DoorDash also runs in-app offers and restaurant-funded promotions — check the Offers tab before ordering, since a $0-delivery or percent-off restaurant deal often beats a generic code.
