Wait for the storewide sale
Old Navy runs frequent storewide percentage-off promotions — often 40% or 50% off much of the store. Prices rarely need to be paid in full: if there's no sale today, one is usually only days away.
Add items to a list and wait for the next event rather than buying at full price. For basics especially, the difference between a sale week and a full-price week is substantial.
Use Super Cash
Super Cash events give you credit earned on one purchase to spend on a later one, similar to Kohl's Cash. Buy during the earning period, then return during the redemption window for a second discounted trip.
