Champion has two memberships. One is free, one is $5 a month
Almost every listing for Champion's “10% off and free shipping on every order” omits that it costs $5 a month. There is also a free membership that already covers the shipping, which changes the maths considerably.
- Authentic Membership costs $5 a month after a 30-day free trial — 10% off plus free shipping on every order.
- Team Champion is free and already gives free standard shipping with no minimum.
- So the $5 buys the 10% and nothing else if you only shop Champion.
- It does extend across Authentic Brands Group stores — Reebok, DC Shoes, Juicy Couture, Ted Baker.
- Students, teachers and military get 10% off free via ID.me, no subscription needed.
The thing the listings leave out
Search for Champion discounts and you will find the same line everywhere: “Membership. 10% off and free shipping on every order. Sign up at checkout.” It appears in affiliate feeds, on coupon sites, and in our own offer data.
What it omits is the price. Champion's Authentic Membership is a paid subscription at $5 a month, after a 30-day free trial. The trial requires payment details up front, and you are charged when it ends unless you cancel.
The free membership almost nobody separates from it
Champion also runs Team Champion, which is free to join. It gives free standard shipping on all US orders with no minimum, plus early access to sales and promotions.
Non-members pay for shipping under $75, at around $10 a go.
This is the detail that changes the decision. If Team Champion already covers your shipping for nothing, the $5 subscription is buying you the 10% discount alone.
Whether the $5 is worth it
Run it as arithmetic. $5 a month is $60 a year. At 10% off, you need to spend $600 a year at Champion before the discount covers the subscription.
For most people that is a lot of hoodies. The case improves considerably if you use the cross-brand coverage: Authentic Membership extends to other Authentic Brands Group stores including Reebok, DC Shoes, Juicy Couture and Ted Baker. Spread across four brands, $600 of annual spending is more plausible.
And the 30-day trial is genuinely free if you cancel — you keep benefits through the full month. Buying one large order inside the trial window is the efficient use of it.
The free 10% discounts
Before paying for anything, check whether you already qualify for the same rate at no cost. Champion gives 10% off to students, teachers and military members, verified through ID.me.
That is the same 10% the paid membership offers. If you qualify, combine it with free Team Champion shipping and you have both benefits of Authentic Membership without the subscription.
These verified discounts generally cannot be combined with other offers, and clearance is usually excluded.
The other free discounts
15% off a first order for signing up to the newsletter, delivered by email.
15% off a first in-app purchase if you order through the Champion app, on non-clearance items.
Those are one-offs, but both beat 10% on a first order — so a new shopper should use one of these rather than starting a subscription.
One thing to know before you order
Champion's cancellation policy is unusually strict: once an order is placed on champion.com you cannot cancel or modify it — not the contents, not even the shipping address. Only Champion can cancel, and only for reasons like a pricing error or an out-of-stock item.
Check the order carefully before confirming. Returns are accepted after delivery, but return shipping is your responsibility and the original shipping fee is not refunded.
Reported return windows vary between sources, so confirm the current policy on Champion's own returns page rather than trusting a coupon site.
